Let It Rain painting by Tamassia Martins
Collage with paint and magazine snippets (24 x 30 inches)
Let It Rain was one of my first attempts at a collage. I wanted to create a bold statement with a strong message. So I used an intense orange background with slight yellow streaks to characterize the fashion industry’s deep indulgence and extravagance. Using cut-outs from high-end fashion brands, expensive and coveted objects, and parts of vogue models, I molded them into the shape of a girl holding an umbrella. But that wasn’t enough, so I added a second aspect of significance through the ethnically diverse hands at the top, demonstrating that love is not predicated by race, color, or ethnicity.
“An excellent piece of modern art, it shows the ever-changing world in which we live and our lust for excitement through a constant search for something new and different; different enough to create a passionate impact, but not too different to disconnect completely from the reality which so many of us hold in common.” – Founder, Italian Artists
