I painted the Moonlight Sonata for my Black & Red series because of its simplistic beauty. I painted him alone, at a piano, because Beethoven dedicated the Moonlight Sonata to a 16-year-old student he’d fallen in love with, Giulietta Guicciardi. He had proposed marriage to her, but her father forbade her from marrying him as he was without rank. Read the full story.
